Murray breaks down in pre-tournament press conference

Paul Annacone 'Roger Federer's environment is complex' Novak Djokovic faces qualifier at Australian Open while Roger Federer draws Denis Istomin

Andy Murray delivered hard news at an emotional news conference Thursday announcing that the upcoming Australian Open may be his last tournament. Novak and Andy have played 36 times against each other on the Tour and five of those matches came at the Australian Open, never before the semi-final stage and four in the title encounter. It has been tough.

'I'm going to play here.

"I said to my team "I think I can get through to Wimbledon". that's where I would like to stop playing". But being so close, I'll give it a go. I can still play to a level.

"But it's not just that".

He insisted he would still try to play at the Australian Open but added "the pain is too much really".

Murray, who has scheduled a news conference on Friday at Melbourne Park, admitted to still feeling pain in his hip before Brisbane.

Murray said he will play in the Australian Open, which could be his last tournament, and hopes to play the final tournament of his career at Wimbledon.

Djokovic has won all of those and they could meet again right from the opening round next week, with Andy now standing at the 230th place and using the protected ranking to enter the main draw after a hip injury that threatened to end his career at one point. Having the operation a year ago was to give it the best possible chance of being better.

"I have an option to have another operation, which is a little bit more severe than what I've had before in having my hip resurfaced, which will allow me to have a better quality of life and be out of pain". That's something I'm seriously considering. "Some athletes have had that and gone back to competing but there's obviously no guarantees".

Men's top seed Djokovic, who was defending his title when he lost to Istomin, has drawn a qualifier in his bid for a record seventh Melbourne title and third Grand Slam crown in succession following wins at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.

The Serb had a magnificent 2018, making an astonishing climb back from outside the world's top 20 in June, winning Wimbledon and the US Open on the way to reclaiming the No 1 ranking in November.
