MarCO CubeSats Heard Loud And Clear By NASA From Mars

InSight is designed to study the interior of Mars like never before using seismology instruments to detect quakes and a self-hammering mole to measure heat escape from the planet's crust NASA Recorded the Sounds of Mars (And It's Almost All Creepy Bass)

That's the sound of winds blowing across NASA's InSight lander on Mars, the first sounds recorded from the red planet.

"InSight sensors captured a haunting low rumble caused by vibrations from the wind, estimated to be blowing between 10 to 25 miles per hour (5 to 7 meters a second) on December 1, from northwest to southeast", the agency said.

Nasa is scheduled to land its rover with two microphones on the red planet in 2020 to be able to capture a clearer sound. Hindustan Times delivers the news across all social media platforms, on the web, and at your doorstep. It will still detect the lander's movement, though channeled through the Martian surface.

These images will help mission team members determine where to set InSight's seismometer and heat flow probe - the only instruments ever to be robotically placed on the surface of another planet. It's like InSight is cupping its ears and hearing the Mars wind beating on it. These are the first sounds from Mars that are detectible by human ears, according to the researchers. The two instruments recorded the wind noise in different ways.

It's been almost two weeks since NASA successfully landed its InSIght lander on Mars and the craft is getting ready to start its important work on the planet.

The winds blowing across the spacecraft is the first sounds recorded from Mars, NASA said.

The reason for having a seismometer on the lander is to see if earthquakes (which on Mars are called Marsquakes) behave in the same way as they do on earth. Nicknamed WALL-E and EVE after the Pixar movie's stars, the MarCO sats followed the InSight lander for 7 Months and productively transmitted the data of its Mars landing back in merely 8 Min to mission control, utilizing experimental antennas and radios.

Upon the landing of Insight, JPL director Michael Watkins said, "Every Mars landing is daunting, but now with InSight safely on the surface we get to do a unique kind of science on Mars".
