Former President Bush tweeted a photograph of Sully, former President Bill Clinton and himself on June 25. Bush to rest this week, it should also pause to recognize what he didn't do while serving as the nation's 41st president.

In April, after his wife Barbara died, Bush reportedly contacted John's Crazy Socks to see if they had any socks he could wear to her funeral.

It was placed into a hearse headed to Houston's Ellington Field, where a presidential aircraft waited to carry Bush's body to Washington for the state funeral.

The locomotive that will pull the train, No. 4141, was specially painted to resemble Air Force One in 2005 in Bush's honor, Union Pacific said on its website.

"And I expressed deepest sympathies", he said, adding: "He was a very fine man. This evening, each of us should take a minute to look up and offer him a silent thanks".

Bush had come to be known in recent years for his colorful and symbolic use of socks, wearing different pairs to express his mood or mark occasions.

A photo of Sully, named after pilot Chelsey "Sully" Sullenberger III who successfully landed a damaged passenger plane on the Hudson River and saved all 155 passengers and crew in 2009, was shared by Mr Bush's spokesperson Jim McGrath on Monday.
