President Trump escalated his war with the media on Friday, telling one reporter, "You ask a lot of stupid questions", calling another "a loser" - and threatening to yank White House credentials from other reporters if they don't show him "great respect".

Another clue is when Trump says this: "You know what, I think you should let me run the country".

On Thursday night, Kimmel slammed the Trump administration, and particularly White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, for sharing a doctored video of Acosta during a Wednesday press conference, and the host insisted that Sanders "should be forced to resign" for spreading lies.

An independent video production trainer tells the AP a video tweeted by the White House on an interaction between CNN reporter Jim Acosta and an intern appears to have been manipulated to make the reporter's actions look more aggressive.

Both SPJ and the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) indicated that the White House made the decision because Acosta asked tough questions.

The heated exchange began after Acosta clung to the microphone and persisted with questions about the president's repeated and angry denunciation of a caravan of poor Central American migrants making their way through Mexico to the United States border.

The New York Times editorialized in favor of restoring Acosta's pass, saying it signaled Trump's view that asking hard questions disqualifies reporters from attending briefings.

Trump interrupted her and responded, "I don't know why you say that, that is such a racist question".

"The fact that the White House press secretary is promoting this doctored video is reprehensible, and grounds for dismissal", Colbert said. "I watch you a lot", he said.

Trump went on to refer to another reporter, April Ryan, who works for American Urban Radio Networks and CNN, as "a loser" and "very nasty".

She also addressed how Trump told her to "sit down" on Wednesday as she attempted to ask questions about voter suppression. He commented on the Acosta event: "Not only didn't he accost her-he said 'pardon me, ma'am.' But that's where the Hucka-B.S. machine comes in".

"The most powerful man in the free world is verbally abusing journalists", she said. Trump later said Comey's firing was because of "this Russian Federation thing".

The president also said, "CNN should be ashamed of itself [for] having you working for them".

CNN's Dana Bash tweeted this reaction: "Harvard University will be surprised to hear POTUS call one of their graduates - my friend and colleague Abby Phillip - stupid".

Trump, speaking just before leaving for an global gathering in Paris to commemorate World War I, refused to answer Phillip.

The White House claimed Acosta "placed his hand" on the female intern while she tried to get the microphone.

He continued, "When you're in the White House, this is a very sacred place to me". "I've never seen a president do anything like that".

Trump also had some (more) choice words for two other CNN personalities. The news outlet was under fire for a series of reports on the alleged Trump-Russia ties.
