The Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan to the International Space Station at 4:40 a.m. EDT Thursday, October 11 (2:40 p.m.in Baikonur) carrying American astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin.

A Soyuz rocket carrying crew members to the International Space Station (ISS) malfunctioned during a launch in Kazakhstan.

USA astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexei Ovchinin landed safely and rescue crews who raced to locate them on the Kazakh steppe quickly linked up with them, according to the United States space agency NASA and Russia's space agency Roscosmos. "The investigation is underway", NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine told reporters.

In the meantime, all scheduled Soyuz launches have been suspended.

RUSSIAN Space Agency Roscosmos release images on Twitter showing US Nasa astronaut Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin having blood pressure and cardiac tests after an emergency landing near Kazakh city of Dzhezkazgan, Kazakhstan, yesterday. China has a human space flight capability, but it has no crew missions planned before 2020, and NASA is barred by Congress from working with the Chinese Space Agency.

"The emergency rescue system worked, the vessel was able to land in Kazakhstan. the crew are alive", Roscosmos said in a tweet.

"From everything we have seen, the crew is in great shape", Wiseman said. Hague and Ovchinin were set to be just the second two-man crew to travel to the space station in recent years. Something went wrong during the separation between the first and second stages of the booster.

Russian Federation may indefinitely postpone its next manned Soyuz launch planned for December, state-owned RIA Novosti reported, citing an unidentified person.

Thursday's aborted mission is another setback for Russia's space program.

"Confirming again that the today's Soyuz MS10 launch did go into a ballistic re-entry mode a little bit after its launch", Dean said during live television commentary.

They were to dock at the orbiting outpost six hours later, but the booster suffered a failure minutes after the launch.

Search and rescue teams were deployed to the landing site.

In August, however, the detection of a minute pressure leak on the International Space Station became the subject of intense media speculation in Russian Federation.

The Russian space agency also sent 70 rocket engines back to production lines in 2016 to replace broken parts.

Rogozin, the Roscosmos chief, has raised wide consternation by saying that an air leak spotted at the International Space Station was a drill hole that was made intentionally during manufacturing or in orbit.

Hague and Ovchinin are safely back on Earth after the abort, during which they likely experienced the force of seven times Earth's gravity.
