Television pictures showed the men, their faces covered with handkerchiefs, coming out of a police station in the border town of Moreh before being turned over to Myanmar authorities.
Assam Police documents identified the seven as Md Inus, Md Sabir Ahmed, Md Jamal, Md Salam, Md Mukbul Khan, Md Rohimuddin and Md Jamal Hussain, who were arrested on July 29, 2012, and detained under the Foreigners Act, 1964.
The Centre told the apex court that the seven Rohingyas have illegally migrated to India in 2012 and they were convicted under Foreigners Act. To which, according to a report by NDTV, Bhushan replied that it was wrong adding that they had't been recognised.
The plea, therefore, was dismissed by CJI Gogoi's Bench on these grounds. "You don't have to remind us".
"Even the country of their origin has accepted them as its citizens", it said. A statement from UNHCR said that the seven men deported on Thursday were not registered with the refugee agency.
On Thursday, India's chief justice, Ranjan Gogoi, said the court would not interfere with the deportation.
He said that after the conviction they were sent to a detention centre and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had contacted the Myanmar embassy for identification of these seven Rohingya. The chief judicial magistrate of Cachar had awarded a three-month sentence for this violation and ordered their detention pending repatriation, it said.
