Serena Williams rolls into US Open semifinals

Serena Williams Match Points 2018- US OPEN- USA NYUS Open 2018 Day 9 Match Points

Former World No 1 Serena Williams on Tuesday (local time) went past Czech Republic's Karolína Pliskova in straight sets to enter the semi-finals of the women's singles event in the US Open for the tenth successive year.

Spain's double Grand Slam victor Garbine Murgurza was next to go, making a second round exit, and then earlier on Tuesday Williams side-stepped a semi-final showdown with third seed Sloane Stephens when the defending champion was sent packing by Anastasija Sevastova.

A tale of two champions unfolded in the quarter-finals as defending champion Sloane Stephens bowed out of the US Open, while Serena Williams locked her sites on another Slam semi-final this year.

Pliskova, who seized the world number one ranking herself briefly past year, said that even though Williams is still rebuilding her world ranking, she's playing more like her old number one self than a number 17. So obviously I know her game really well.

Projected to move as high as No.18, overtaking Venus Williams in the rankings (depending on results), and climb to No.11 by winning the title, Serena completed her 330th win in a Grand Slam and continued her bid to clinch her 24th major title and her 47th hard court title.

Maybe. But that didn't last long as the 36-year-old American advanced to the last four of the US Open for the 12th time. Two years later, she is anything but a dark horse as she gets set to face Williams again in what will be her sixth major quarterfinal in her last nine attempts.

Woodward book reveals 'crazytown' Trump White House
Current Chief of Staff John Kelly told colleagues Trump is " unhinged " and "an idiot ", according to Woodward. That being said, the famed journalist claims they are done being silent about such a serious topic.

"I hope I will enjoy it, playing semi-finals.

I feel like she has a big chance because the players which stayed [in the tournament], I feel like she can beat all of them". She missed a chance earlier this summer when she fell to Angelique Kerber in the Wimbledon final.

It was her first win over a top-10 ranked player since beating Britain's Johanna Konta at the 2017 Australian Open. It's still long way to go, I think. You can't control the weather, can't control what the tournament is going to do. However, the second set proved to be more of one sided affair for Williams taking the first game easily taking her tally to five games in a row which she had won.

By failing to step up her game for the key points, Stephens allowed the match to get away from her quickly and despite a late fightback was in no shape to pull off a comeback. He committed back-to-back double faults to fall behind 4-1, and he eventually lost on another error. "I think she lost also her nerves a little bit, it's normal".

"So now I feel like I'm at a level where I can play and try to compete against these unbelievable women in the Top 10".

Bidding to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal since 2017 Roland Garros, Pliskova had to wait for the sixth game of the second set to hit her first ace of the match.
