Depending on the person and the perspective, there were all sorts of ways of viewing and interpreting what went on between Serena Williams and chair umpire Carlos Ramos during the U.S. Open final. He said so after the match (although Williams was adamant they don't have any established signals).

Osaka made history on the track after 79 minutes of dominance over Williams, but their meeting will be diluted forever by the hostile scenes starring Serena, uncontrolled before the chair umpire, Carlos Ramos, whose only fault was to strictly comply the regulation and the ethical code.

According to the official Grand Slam rule book, a first infraction gets a warning, a second offence results in a point penalty while a third brings about a game penalty.

She also called Ramos a "thief", asserting that he stole the point from her. Ramos then penalized Williams further, citing "verbal abuse".

Williams' fine for the code violations, imposed by the United States Tennis Association (USTA), will be deducted from the $1.85 million the American won as the runner-up. Williams said. "You owe me an apology". "I'd rather lose. I'm just letting you know".

Osaka revealed she was not quite coolness personified, though, saying: "I woke up and I was sweating".

Osaka, 20, won the match 6-2 6-4 to become the first Japanese Grand Slam champion.

Osaka dictated the match and actually started to win over the partisan crowd early in the second set before the focus shifted to the back-andforth between Williams and Ramos.

"Like, when I step onto the court, I feel like a different person, right?"

The victory made Murray, who won here a year ago with Martina Hingis, the first man to win consecutive US Open mixed doubles titles since Bob Bryan in 2003-04.

Her agent Stuart Duguid said: "I don't think Naomi knows what's coming but I have a fair idea". "If you ever see me walking down the hall, look the other way because you're out of control".

Osaka grew up idolising Williams - and insisted what happened on Saturday would not change that, even though the shine was certainly taken off her big moment.

Ramos, who works primarily on the men's tour, is known for being one of the strictest umpires, notably giving time violations to the slow-moving Rafael Nadal where other umpires are more lax.

"I feel like it's a responsibility but I'm also really glad to have that responsibility". He's never taken a game from a man because they said 'thief.' For me, it blows my mind, but I'm going to continue to fight for women and to fight for us to have equal coordination - to be able to take our shirt off on the court without getting a fine. "This is outrageous", said Williams, before leaving her press conference to applause.

She later accused him of sexism, saying: "He's never taken a game from a man because they said "thief".

Meanwhile, Mouratoglou took to Twitter to also take aim at Ramos. "But then when I hugged her at the net", she said, "I felt like a little kid again". She demands referee Brian Earley come on to the court.

"For you to attack my character is something that's wrong", Williams said during a changeover. "Maybe there has to be a supervisor that comes on and has the final say before you give a game away". "I stood up for what was right", Williams replied. "It's the most cliched things you could think of, always things that make you go "Ugh".
