Trump Lashes Out at ‘Rigged’ Google for ‘Controlling’ Its Search Results

Trump attacks Google, claims it prioritizes 'fake news' in searches Donald Trump: Google’s news service is rigged against me
Lori Graves | 29 August, 2018, 02:02

In a hypocritical embrace of government regulation, presidential economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Tuesday that the White House was considering regulating Google's search engine, when President Donald Trump-after evidently "rage-googling" himself-expressed displeasure when he found only negative news in an early morning search.

"In other words, they have it RIGGED, for me and others, so that nearly all stories and news is BAD". Fake CNN is prominent.

He did not name the source of this figure - but The Verge website reports it appears to have come from analysis by Paula Bolyard at the conservative news site PJ Media.

The blog post claimed that left-leaning media organizations made up 96 percent of the search results when "Trump News" was searched, with "left-leaning" basically meaning anything that isn't Breitbart or Infowars or PJ Media or other notably reliable places to find news that confirms your hatred of "the libs".

The Mountain View, California-based tech company says it makes "hundreds of improvements" to its algorithms every year to ensure "high-quality content" is returned in response to users' queries. "This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!"

Aside from Google, other companies with global influence such as Facebook and Twitter have likewise been subjects of criticism over reports that they have censored conservative voices.

Claims like this, of a massive conspiracy of bias against conservative ideas by all the big tech companies, don't have to be airtight to be viral. She said she performed the search several times using different computers, and the results did not differ considerably.

Despite the win and the three points, Emery said there were still many things that could improve. Substitute Danny Welbeck polished off the win with a goal in injury time .

However various studies suggest conservatives are thriving on social media. He promised the "very serious situation" would be "addressed", but didn't give specifics.

A Twitter representative referred a request for comment on Trump's remarks to public testimony from Nick Pickles, the company's global lead for public policy strategy, who testified before Congress in July.

The biggest news out of all of this - at least according to the amusing people on Twitter - might be that the president uses both a computer and Google. Bolyard said left-leaning outlets accounted for 96 percent of the results, with CNN stories making up "nearly 29 percent of the total".

"Google also had fired engineer James Damore for criticizing the company's 'Ideological Echo Chamber.' The company had claimed he had been fired for 'advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace.' Damore is suing Google, saying it mistreats whites, males and conservatives". While search results can vary between users, observers were quick to point out Tuesday that the top result for many "Trump news" searches was an article from Fox News.

"Mexico will pay for the wall, as we all know", Smith said mockingly.

In a previous investigation, the FTC decided that Google was likely justified in developing a search function that harmed other companies.
