President Donald Trump is reviving his call for a national voter ID system as the country heads into the midterm election and the president eyes his own reelection campaign. Trump was railing against the idea of noncitizens voting and advocating stricter voting laws when he claimed that IDs are required for everything else, including shopping. He was trying to tell supporters that tighter laws would stop people who aren't USA citizens from voting, and in his argument added that people need IDs for most other things.

Shoppers do need IDs to buy alcohol, some medicines and cigarettes.

Trump also criticized Democrats who oppose his nominee for the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, and said voters need to elect more Republicans.

And his 2016 rallies there, in the former coal mining region that came to represent the Democratic former union workers who turned out for Trump in droves, were among the most frenzied and frenetic of his presidential bid.
