Ex-athletes say Ohio State doctor groped, ogled men for years

Ohio lawmaker accused of ignoring abuse of Ohio State student-athletes Rep. Jim Jordan denies allegations he ignored sexual abuse of Ohio State wrestlers

A former Ohio State University wrestler told Fox News Thursday that he sent a series of emails to Rep. Jim Jordan about alleged sexual abuse by a team doctor in an effort "to help him realize he needed to step forward and lead [and] cut through the BS at Ohio State".

Earlier this week, Jordan's office denied knowing about any allegations against Richard Strauss, a team doctor who died in 2005.

The report, by NBC News, said that three former wrestlers said it was commonly known that Dr. Strauss showered with students and touched them inappropriately during appointments, and that Mr. Jordan, an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State from 1986 to 1994, must have known about the abuse.

I've talked to other coaches, and they didn't know of any abuse.

President Trump has stood behind Jordan, telling reporters on Air Force One Thursday that he believes the congressman's denials. "No question in my mind", Trump said.

"I considered Jim Jordan a friend", DiSabato said. "He's an outstanding man", Trump added.

Jordan continues to contend that he was unaware of the matter and that had he been aware, he would have addressed it, according to his Tuesday interview with Politico.

The email refers to Jordan as "Reverend James - the "squeaky clean" US Congressman from Urbana, who does not recall systemic sex abuse and has never heard agent orange tell a lie and wants to be speaker of the house despite his apparent lack of knowledge of the systemic sex abuse...."

DiSabato told CNN's Brooke Baldwin on Wednesday that not only was Jordan aware of the alleged abuse, but that he witnessed inappropriate behavior from Strauss in the team shower.

The Times gives context to Jordan's position in the House, describing the Freedom Caucus member as being floated as a potential successor to Paul Ryan as speaker.

This came as a fourth former Ohio State University wrestler, Shawn Dailey, came forward and said he'd been abused. He's taken leading roles in fighting the Affordable Care Act and in pushing back against the government's Russian Federation investigation, most recently interrogating Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in committee.

DiSabato, of Dublin in suburban Columbus, also told the AP that Jordan had direct knowledge of the Strauss allegations. Messrs. Coleman and Jordan roomed together on several wrestling trips, Mr. Coleman said. "It was very common knowledge in the locker room that if you went to Dr. Strauss for anything, you would have to pull your trousers down".

Fury said Jordan's office was unable to locate any messages from Trafford.

But Jordan disputes reports that he ignored an interview request from a law firm the university has employed to investigate the abuse claims.
