Recreational cannabis to be legal in Canada on Oct. 17, says Trudeau

The legislation will make Canada only the second country in the world to make pot legal.

He says the eight per cent commission was based on the rate for alcohol retailers, and they've been successful for decades.

Canadians will soon be able to order marijuana through the mail as part of the nation's new legalization of recreational pot.

Trudeau, who admitted in 2013 that he used to smoke a joint with his friends back in his younger days, said with marijuana being legal, the government hopes to curtail the CA$6 billion (AU$6.12 billion) that's entering the black market. Trina Fraser, a cannabis business specialist at Brazeau Seller Law, said New Brunswick is almost ready to start stocking its store shelves, for example, while B.C. hasn't even started accepting applications for licenses to operate private stores. In Portugal, which famously relaxed its drug laws, the possession and use of the drug is decriminalized, but not legal. The measure was approved earlier this month by the House of Commons 56-30.

This comes shortly after Canadian lawmakers passed the bill to legalize marijuana in the country via a 52-29 vote in the Senate. Anyone found to be carrying more than this amount, or providing it to minors - anyone under the age of 18 or 19 depending on the province - will be breaking the law.

The federal government has also amended the country's impaired driving laws to cover the consequences for driving under marijuana influence.

The federal bill specifies that individuals may grow up to four plants per dwelling but Manitoba and Quebec have said they will ban it.

According to ESPN , Los Angeles has acquired the No. 39 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft from the 76ers for a 2019 second-round pick. Popovich and Leonard reportedly met in person Tuesday night to discuss the superstar's future.

He justified the delay to implement the law by noting that provinces requested the extra time to organise sales in authorised stores.

Passage of the bills had Trudeau and his ministers basking in the glow of finally delivering on one of the Liberals' biggest campaign promises in 2015.

"There is no point looking at pardons while the old law is on the books", he said. "The fact that that's done means now we can move ahead with some of the key aspects with provincial legislation".

Adults will be allowed to possess up to one ounce of dried pot in public.

A report by the Conference Board of Canada released on Tuesday showed that more than half of Canadian employers are concerned about the potential use of marijuana in the workplace.

Bill C-45, also known as the Cannabis Act, was first introduced on April 13, 2017, in a bid to legalize and regulate the recreational use of weed.

Mark Zekulin, president of Canopy Growth, told CTV's Power Play host Don Martin that while they would have been ready for a July implementation, "we'll take the breathing room".
