Details of the alleged strike were murky, with Syria's official SANA news agency reporting a "new enemy aggression" on regime positions in Hama and Aleppo provinces, without alleging who was behind the raid.

At least 26 pro-government fighters, including a number of Iranians, were killed in a missile attack on a Syrian army base in northern Syria late Sunday, the Associated Press reported.

Iran's state-run Tasnim news agency said that rockets didn't hit or kill any Iranian soldiers.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 26 people were killed.

A Syrian army-organized tour on April 20 shows a member of the Syrian government forces walking past a Syrian government flag with a portrait hanging nearby of President Bashar al-Assad, in the Eastern Ghouta town of Douma on the outskirts of the capital Damascus.

Israel has repeatedly warned that it will not tolerate Iranian military presence in Syria.

According to United Nations figures, the Israeli military violated Syrian airspace more than 750 times in the four-month period leading up to last October, with its warplanes and drones spending some 3,200 hours over the country. Rockets devastated Syria's T4 air base in Homs, killing a handful of Iranian military personnel earlier in April. He also stated that Israel will not permit Iran, which has sent thousands of troops into Syria, to establish bases from which it can fire missiles.

The Syrian government-owned Tishrin newspaper quoted what it called "sources on the ground" as saying that the attack on military positions in Aleppo and Hama provinces consisted of nine ballistic missiles fired from American-British bases in north Jordan.

Syria, Iran and Russian Federation blamed Israel for that attack. Syria's about as complicated a foreign policy issue the United States has dealt with in decades, and you can be on any side of this argument, and be somewhat reasonable. Israeli media reported that the security cabinet will hold an unscheduled meeting later Monday on the subject of the nuclear deal with Iran.

It wasn't their chemistry that brought Russia, Iran and Turkey to the table over Syria.

The Iranian official, meanwhile, stressed that Iran will remain supporting Syria and will continue to push for reaching a political solution decided by the Syrians that would preserve the unity and sovereignty of the country.

Assad said the worldwide map is being redrawn, adding that the recent "escalation of the aggression against Syria" is a sign that insurgents have failed and this will only make Damascus more determined "to wipe out terrorism". It coincides with intense military operations south of Damascus, targeting the so-called Islamic State, al-Qaida-linked militants and other rebel groups who command separate pockets in the area.
