The American singer Grande, who visited the injured in hospital in the wake of the bombing and returned two weeks later to host a fund-raising concert, wrote on Twitter: "Thinking of you all today and every day I love you with all of me and am sending you all of the light and warmth I have to offer on this challenging day".

The finale was a mass 30-minute communal singalong including Don't Look Back In Anger by Oasis, One Day Like This by Elbow, Ariana Grande's One Last Time, Never Forget by Take That and The Beatles' All You Need Is Love.

Following the attack, Grande put on a benefit concert in Manchester for the families of those affected.

Pirate FM has held a minute's silence to remember those who lost their lives.

Grande tweeted a tribute to the victims and survivors. Earlier in the day, Prince William and Prime Minister Theresa May joined the families of victims at a special remembrance service held at Manchester Cathedral. They will attend the service at Manchester Cathedral alongside first responders, civic leaders and some of the scores injured in the suicide attack on May 22 previous year, which killed 22 people.

The ceremony included a national silence at 2.30pm to allow the country to remember those who died.

The prime minister said that "such appalling acts of wickedness" would strengthen Britain's resolve "to defeat such twisted ideologies and beliefs".

"The resilience and determination shown by this city in the 12 months since is testament to that".

In May 2017, Grande had finished her concert at the Manchester Arena in the United Kingdom when a terrorist detonated a bomb, killing 22 people and injuring more than 500 others.

Next on stage was 11-year-old Molly Catterall with a performance of Somewhere Only We Know in the style of the John Lewis TV advert, and then Hallelujah.

An estimated 3,000 singers were thought to be at the open-air Manchester Together - With One Voice event to perform songs by some of the city's most successful bands.

Bells on the city hall and churches rang out at 10:31 p.m., a year since the bomb exploded.
