Jodhpur court pronounced the verdict this morning by not only convicting Salman in the case but by also sentencing him to 5 years of jail.

The Rajasthan High Court on August 31, 2006, suspended the sentence and ordered the actor to not leave the country without formal permission.

Chogaram Bishnoi, a member of the community, told reporters that he had seen Khan stopping his jeep and shooting the two blackbucks in a village near Jodhpur in October 1998.

Salman Khan's counsel argued that there were many holes in the prosecution's story and it failed to prove its case beyond any doubt.

Throughout 2017, Khan's lawyer refused to produce evidence for the new trial, as the team had decided that all the evidence to prove Khan's innocence had already been produced in the courts, and in March 2018 the trial began.

The other actors, Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari, were charged with abetting a crime but were acquitted Thursday, Singh said.

"He, on spotting a herd of blackbucks, shot at and killed two of them".

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dev Kumar Khatri, while announcing the verdict, called the actor a "habitual offender".

While the other four were acquitted by a Jodhpur court today, Salman was taken to the Jodhpur Central Jail from the court. It is a very sad news for the film industry, his family and all those who know him.

It is not the first time Khan - who has cultivated an image as a Bollywood "bad boy" - has been in trouble with the law. "He should get some relief from the higher court on grounds of the social work that he has done".

The International Union for Conservation of Nature listed it as a "near threatened" species in 2013 and it is protected under the India's Wildlife Act.

Currently, three big projects - Race 3, Bharat and Dabangg 3 - as well as a comeback season of reality television show Dus Ka Dum are riding on Salman Khan's shoulders.

However, in December 2015, he was acquitted by a court in the 2002 hit-and-run case in which a homeless man died and few others sustained injuries.

Killing endangered antelope isn't the only time Salman has hit headlines.
