Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo wins Chinese Grand Prix; sixth career win

Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas finished second while Kimi Raikkonen was third in a Ferrari.

The opening stint of the Chinese Grand Prix was largely free of drama, with Vettel on course for his third win in as many races this season.

The smile was broader than ever as Daniel Ricciardo savoured a surprise Chinese Grand Prix victory in his own inimitable fashion on Sunday.

Bottas admitted feeling a bit hard done by in his 100th grand prix, particularly since the timing of the safety car's deployment didn't allow him to stop for tyres when the Red Bulls did. The Dutchman was in a strong position to win after stopping for soft tyres during the Safety Car period, but an audacious pass attempt on Lewis Hamilton around the outside of Turn 6 forced him off the track and behind his teammate.

But as one Red Bull shone, the other clashed. Verstappen's 10-second penalty dropped him behind Hamilton in the classification, however.

At the front, Ricciardo held his ground to win the Chinese GP 2018 in style, with a 8s lead from second placed Bottas.

The Red Bull man was unsurprisingly handed a ten-second penalty but that was of absolutely no concern to team-mate Ricciardo as he found an impossible gap to take Bottas and the race lead.

He committed F1's cardinal sin by crashing into team mate Brendon Hartley at the hairpin on Lap 30 of the 56, scattering debris across the track.

Whatever the judge decided, Hendon said, would have to "withstand scrutiny for all time ". "This has to be done right", she said. Agents, they wrote, had already searched multiple email accounts maintained by Cohen after securing an earlier search warrant.

The Australian, who started sixth after nearly missing qualifying, made the most of fresher tires to finish 8.8 seconds ahead of Valtteri Bottas in a Mercedes.

"I don't think I need to say anything here", said a disgruntled Vettel.

Having seen his win hopes disappear, Vettel's race went from bad to worse a few laps later when Verstappen tried an overzealous move into Turn 14, causing the Ferrari driver to spin.

Pilot Red bull Daniel Riccardo in bright style became the victor of the third race of the season in Formula 1. The German had been leading from pole-position but he and Ferrari were blindsided during their tyre stop on lap 21 when Bottas managed to produce a fast out-lap after pitting a lap earlier.

In the constructors' stakes, Mercedes now have a one-point advantage over Ferrari, 85 to 84, with Red Bull moving into a clear third place on 55.

Spaniards Fernando Alonso for McClaren and Renault's Carlos Sainz finished seventh and ninth respectively. "It kind of felt like we deserved a victory, but not today". "I'm thankful for a couple of incidents that kept us kind of in the battle". "I was defending, obviously saw him very close in Turns 1/2/3".

And the 28-year-old warned the pair that they should not give him such an opportunity again or else he will continue to make them pay.
