Peter Maurer told a small group of journalists at United Nations headquarters in NY on Wednesday that before then the ICRC only had "requests in the hundreds".

The Syrian war has been going on for more than seven years.

The group said Tuesday it has verified 861 videos from 193 sources covering some 212 attacks in Syria. The three western countries responded with strikes at several Syrian chemical facilities, according to ITV News.

BEIRUT: inspectors collected samples Wednesday from a new location in the Syrian town of Douma, their second visit to the area that was hit by a suspected gas attack almost three weeks ago.

The team took samples during the visit to Douma.

The OPCW team's visit would allow the agency to proceed with an independent investigation to determine what chemicals, if any, were used in the April 7 attack.

They claim that the attack killed over 40 people, many of them suffocating in an underground shelter where they were hiding from government airstrikes.

Late last week, on Saturday, chemical weapons inspectors from the Organization of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) said that they had managed to collect samples from Syria's Douma, almost 11 days after the suspected gas attack there.

United Nations humanitarian chief Mark Lowcock says he expects donors to pledge 4.4 billion dollars in humanitarian aid for Syria and neighbors sheltering its refugees for 2018.

Russia says no reason not to supply S-300 missiles to Assad
President of Russia Vladimir Putin is ready to meet with US leader Donald Trump , Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov told RIA Novosti.

"It was also recommended that such a briefing take place once the (fact-finding mission) has completed its work", the statement said.

Russian Embassy spokesman Mikhail Sobolev said Wednesday that about 15 Syrians will attend a meeting at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on Thursday to brief member states.

Russian President Putin described the missile attack on Syria on the night of April 14 as an act of aggression.

The Syrian Archive, which works with human rights groups such as Amnesty International, said it has verified 861 videos covering some 212 attacks — a lot of them believed to have been carried out by government forces.

Graphic images and videos emerged on social media following Douma's alleged gas attack, showing children struggling to breathe and entire families who had succumbed to the attack on the floors of underground shelters. Britain vehemently denied the accusation.

The Russian military has said it will soon deliver new air defense systems to Syria in light of missile attacks launched on alleged Syrian chemical weapons facilities by the United States, Britain, and France almost two weeks ago.

The defense Minister of Israel Avigdor Lieberman said that the Israeli military will destroy the s-300, which, probably, Russian Federation will supply to Syria, reports Ynetnews.

Defense analysts have questioned whether an S-300 system in Syrian hands could threaten Israel's air power in the region and prevent it from being able to conduct strikes against targets in Syria.

The recent recapture of Douma, a remnant rebel bastion east of Damascus, by forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad, led to scattered reunions.
