The company has made a decision to delay the announcement of its upcoming "hardware products" and "connected speakers with digital-assistant and video-chat capabilities", according to a Bloomberg report.

You'll notice the following message on this page: "Download a copy of your Facebook data".

On its own platform, Facebook has promised new fine print for business-to-business applications, complete with "rigorous policies and terms".

Bloomberg previously reported Facebook was working on a device with a laptop-sized touchscreen as well as a speaker.

Facebook is reining in how advertisers use data to target people on its platform.

Facebook has released an update of the measures the brand is going to take, following Mark Zuckerberg's announcement regarding the Cambridge Analytica situation last week.

They also coincide with sweeping new privacy laws, which require more specific and simplified disclosures to consumers, that are about to go into effect in Europe.

There's a lot to unpack in Facebook's blog post, but one thing stands out across all of Facebook's kickback to the situation: Nowhere has the company said why it needs to collect call logs and SMS metadata from your phone.

The ministry has raised five questions in all including whether the personal data of Indian voters and users has been compromised by Cambridge Analytica or any other downstream entity in any manner.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has opened an investigation into Facebook and attorneys representing 37 states are also pressing Zuckerberg to explain what happened. Both of those targeting options are still available. In the blog post, Facebook says "Call and text history logging...helps you find and stay connected with the people you care about, and provides you with a better experience across Facebook".

In other words, a toothpaste brand will no longer be able to use third-party data to send ads to people who are frequent supermarket shoppers. The information also includes the dates when an account was reactivated, deactivated, disabled or deleted, all store active sessions, which has date, time, device, IP address, machine cookie and browser information.

So this move is unlikely to cause Facebook's revenue to plunge overnight.

Facebook has outlined a set of changes to its platform that impact developers and data brokers.

The social media giant was also hit with a fresh controversy following the Cambridge Analytica revelations.

"While this is common industry practice, we believe this step, winding down over the next six months, will help improve people's privacy on Facebook", Graham Mudd, a Facebook product marketing director, said in a statement.

Facebook's website lists nine third-party data providers that it has worked with, including Acxiom, Experian, Oracle Data Cloud, TransUnion, and WPP.

Playboy Enterprises says it's pulling its Facebook presence as the privacy scandal enveloping the social media service continues to grow.
