In order to talk about the tool with technology firms, the home secretary has embarked on a trip to the United States in an attempt to fight extremism with the new innovation along with other methods.

According to the BBC, UK home secretary Amber Rudd said the government may end up legally forcing tech companies to use the tool. ASI Data Science, the company that worked in collaboration with UK Home Office, announced on its official Twitter handle that the accuracy of the algorithm is close to 99.9%.

Anything the software identifies as potential IS material would be flagged up for a human decision to be taken.

Asked if the government may force smaller platforms to use the technology Judd said that the government is not ruling out "taking legislative action if we need to do it".

Rudd visited the USA to meet tech companies to discuss the idea, as well as other efforts to tackle extremism. It says that the system uses advanced machine learning to analyze the sound and visual components of videos for "subtle signals".

The Home Secretary and US Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen visited senior executives from leading venture capital firms, asking them to ensure the start-ups they invested in had taken appropriate anti-terrorist measures.

The news comes as Rudd is in the USA to meet with tech giants to discuss ways of working to collaboratively counteract the emergence of online extremist content. "This has to be in conjunction, though, of larger companies working with smaller companies".

"They can encourage the companies they invest in to introduce a facility to enable users and authorities to flag terrorist material for removal", Ms Rudd added.

She discussed the new anti-terror tool on her visit during talks with internet service providers in the country as part of the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism, which was launched past year in the aftermath of the UK Parliament attack in March 2017.

But smaller platforms are increasingly targeted by ISIS and its supporters and they often do not have the same level of resources to develop technology.
