In an interview with Reuters last month, Trump accused Russian Federation of helping North Korea evade global sanctions meant to punish Pyongyang for its pursuit of a nuclear-armed missile capable of reaching the United States. Because the current Israeli government rejects the two-state solution, Jason Greenblatt, Mr. Trump's representative for worldwide negotiations, and Jared Kushner, his Middle East envoy, refuse to discuss any of the core issues necessary for peace. The Palestinians suggested a multilateral worldwide mechanism or sponsorship for any upcoming peace talks with Israel.

In one meeting, we told President Trump's envoys how important Jerusalem is to Palestine.

On 30 December, Trump had tweeted on street protests in various Iranian cities saying, "Many reports of peaceful protests by Iranian citizens fed up with regime's corruption & its squandering of the nation's wealth to fund terrorism overseas". He said, "Right now, I would say the Palestinians are not looking to make peace, they are not looking to make peace".

President Trump made the controversial announcement on December 6 a year ago, instructing the State Department to relocate the USA embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.

"Russia and Putin will have an important role in this matter, including launching an worldwide peace conference and several important issues that require consultation with all relevant parties until we achieve the interest of the Palestinian people", said Khalidi.

Earlier in the day, Tillerson told reporters after his meeting in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart that the U.S. remains committed to achieve lasting peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians. The UN voted to condemn Trump administration's decision overwhelmingly.

"We keep hearing in recent months that the United States is about to publish some "major deal" that ... will satisfy everyone", he said.

Like Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton before him, Trump fingered the Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria (the so-called "West Bank") as glaringly problematic. "The capital, having Jerusalem be your great capital was a very important thing to a lot of people", Trump said, urging both sides - Palestinians in particular - to bear that in mind while seeking a compromise.

Palestinians seek diplomatic recognition for their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip. Palestinian President Mehmoud Abbas had condemned the move, saying it disqualified the United States from playing the role of arbiter.
