After several months of investigations, the Hawks pounced on the Guptas and their alleged associates on Wednesday.

According to local media reports, one of those arrested was a Gupta family member.

News of the planned deals‚ which will see their lawyers meeting with the Hawks today‚ follows reports that President Jacob Zuma's son and Gupta business associate‚ Duduzane Zuma‚ is to hand himself over‚ with his lawyers‚ to the Hawks today.

Gani‚ of the law firm Gani Mayet Attorneys in Johannesburg‚ said that he had yet to receive any documents pertaining to the search and seizure warrant that saw heavily armed Hawks officers raid the family's Saxonwold compound in Johannesburg early on Wednesday.

Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said: "Two (arrests) were made there (at the Gupta homestead), one in Gauteng and two in the Free State".

The Vrede farm investigation relates to the Estina dairy farm near Vrede, in the Free State, a project which was originally meant to help poor black farmers but from which the Gupta family are alleged to have pocketed millions of dollars, the allegations they deny.

"This decision provides certainty to the people of South Africa at a time when economic and social challenges to the country require an urgent and resolute response", said the ANC's deputy secretary general, Jessie Duarte.
