"When you have access to all the music in the world, finding the right thing to play can feel like a challenge", Spotify says in the app's description. "With Stations, you can listen immediately, and switching stations is simple and seamless - no searching or typing needed". Like Spotify's core service, there's a personalization element with user-based playlists created once enough music has been played for it to gather data.

Spotify has launched a new app named Stations which is now available only in Australia but is expected to be rolled out to all regions soon.

Stations is now labeled as an 'experiment, ' which clearly indicates that the app is being tested.

When questioned about the app, Spotify simply told Variety that it's "testing new features all the time", declining to give any specific information about Stations itself.

With the app, Spotify apparently wants to solve the infinite choice problem that a lot of the premium music services have. Best of all, the app is free if you can tolerate insufferable ads. As you listen, you can like songs to unlock even more stations you might be interested in. Apparently you can add or delete playlists that exist, but can't create new ones. Several users have complained that you can't skip tracks, while others praised the app's simplicity.

This app offers a "lean-back" option to listen to music based on genres and managed playlists.

As part of moves to remain competitive, Spotify launched a version of its app for iMessage in September.

The Spotify Stations app is available for download from the Google Play Store but the listing page mentions that it's not compatible with handsets in the United States and many other markets. It also put an end to copying-and-pasting links.
