By contrast, the FX show is described by The Hollywood Reporter as more of a "reboot" of the film, which presumably means vampire shenanigans will be the main focus. Waititi and Clement, the writers, directors and stars of the original film, will serve as executive producers.

The New Zealand cast will be replaced by Americans for the United States pilot. Additionally, Waititi (who recently directed Thor: Ragnarok) will act as director, while Clement will write the show.

Waititi's career has taken off after the success of Thor: Ragnarok, a Marvel comedy movie released in October a year ago that was a critical hit and box office success story.

It's the third reported What We Do In The Shadows spin-off project, following the upcoming TVNZ series Wellington Paranormal and feature-length follow-up, We're Wolves.

Kayvan Novak (Four Lions, Rev) will play Nandor, the alpha-male vampire of the house; Matt Berry (The I.T. Crowd) will play the comically stupid Lazslo; while Natasia Demetriou (Sick Note) will play "badass" vampire Nadja. There are also no details on whether Waititi or Clement will reprise the roles of Viago and Vladislav the Poker.

2017 will be known as the year of Taika Waititi.

FX, home of American Horror Story and Legion, seems like a good fit for a bloodthirsty dark comedy about vampire roommates who don't always get along with the human world. or each other. It will also be executive produced by Scott Rudin, Paul Simms, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush.
