Washington State quarterback Tyler Hilinski, 21, was found dead Tuesday of "an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head", according to the Pullman (Wash.) Police Department.

Whitman County Coroner has issued statement saying it has completed its investigation into Tyler Hilinski's death.

"We are deeply saddened to hear the news of Tyler's passing", Washington State coach Mike Leach said in a statement reported by ESPN. Everyone who got chance to knowing him was better for it.

Hilinski was the second-string quarterback for WSU and was expected to be the starter for the 2018-2019 season.

The second string QB made his first start with the WSU Cougars in the Holiday Bowl against Michigan State in place of the injured starter Luke Falk.

Hilinski appeared in eight games during his sophomore season, throwing for 1,176 yards and seven touchdowns.
