An Iranian lawmaker says two more protesters have been killed and others wounded during a demonstration in the southwest amid nationwide protests over the government's handling of the economy.

Video posted on social media showed crowds of people, some chanting "Death to the dictator!" walking through the streets. "The enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran are angry with the glory, success, and the progress of the Iranian nation; and they have vowed to get the regional troubles into Iran", he said at a meeting with chairmen of the parliament's commissions on Monday, according to the Mehr news agency.

Frustrations over economic hardships and alleged corruption erupted in Iran's second city of Mashhad on Thursday and escalated into calls for the religious establishment in power since the 1979 revolution to step down.

"Some armed protesters tried to take control of some police stations and military bases but they met strong resistance from security forces", state TV said.

"What is happening in Iran will be over in a few days, and there is no reason to worry at all", he said in remarks reported by the state-run Press TV.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected comments by Iran President Hassan Rouhani, who blamed Israel for standing behind the anti-government protests in Iran.

Iranian Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani on Monday ordered the country's prosecutors to take serious measures in dealing with the rioters vandalizing public properties amid the recent civil protests.

The Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported that the law enforcement agencies had arrested almost 400 people in Iran, including 200 in Tehran, for taking part in the protests.
