According to a senior police official, a woman and a youth were killed and seven others injured on Friday in heavy shelling and firing by the Pakistan Rangers on the global border (IB) in RS Pura sector of Jammu region.

In a separate instance later in the day, five civilians were injured when the neighbouring country violated the ceasefire in Hiranagar sector of Kathua, reported ANI.

Around 100 outposts of the Border Security Force (BSF) retaliated effectively to Pakistan firing on the global border.

"A BSF head constable was killed and two others (of the force) were injured", a police spokesperson said.

Pakistan's foreign ministry on Saturday summoned the deputy Indian High Commissioner to lodge a protest over what it called unprovoked cease-fire violations by Indian troops. The deceased Army jawan was identified as sepoy Mandeep Singh.
