Apple, Google and other tech giants like Facebook provide daily charter buses to shuttle employees from San Francisco and Oakland to their Silicon Valley headquarters.

In the past week, five Apple commuter shuttles carrying employees to and from the company's Cupertino offices have been attacked, several sources tell us. The object used to inflict damage too remains unclear as it could be a rock or even pellet guns.

Due to the potential targeting, the two tech giants chose to alter the usual routes, causing "an additional 30-45 minutes of commute time in each direction", according to an email from "The Apple Commute Team" obtained by Mashable.

Four buses carrying Apple employees and one bus carrying Google employees were targeted. Windows of the buses were shattered and knocked out, but no injuries were reported. This change in routes could mean an additional 30-45 minutes of commute time in each direction for some riders. Apple later told Mashable that it is working with police to investigate the incidents.

"As always, the safety of our employees is our first priority", the email reads. At least four separate shuttles are said to have suffered broken windows while driving on 280.

Chrissy Teigen and Mckayla Maroney Are the #MeToo Dream Team
As of Tuesday, 88 women have agreed to make victim-impact statements at Nassar's sentencing. Among the victims are Olympic gymnasts Gabby Douglas , Makayla Maroney and Aly Raisman .

Following the incidents Apple sent an e-mail to its employees, saying that its coaches had been temporarily rerouted. Some believe these buses have become a constant reminder of the gentrification in and around Silicon Valley, however, and they have been the focus of protests in the past.

"We're not certain what caused the damage at this time, but we're not ruling anything out", CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

The buses typically do not bear names of companies, but acronyms for destinations that appear on the vehicle's digital banners can indicate to which tech campus they travel.

One of the emails noted that "There is nothing confirmed but it is suspected that a pellet gun might have been used in these incidents".

Apple and Google might be rivals on the tech scene but seem to have a common enemy, one that seems keen to take things to a more physical level.
