An Amazon spokeswoman said, " Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website".

Both parties have said that they hope the matter will be resolved soon, but neither looks likely to budge. Browsing YouTube on Amazon Fire TV displays a message that reads, "Starting on 2018-01-01, YouTube will not be available on this device". In 2016, YouTube's viewership on TV screens grew 90% compared to 2015, according to the Google-owned company.

However, even that version has now been pulled from the Echo Show by YouTube - and even more damaging is Google's decision to remove a similarly web-optimized version of YouTube from Amazon's TV streaming device, the Fire TV, as well. Google seems to be betting that Amazon will want to get YouTube back up and running on its flagship video products before long, so it can afford to take a hard line here.

Google said in a statement, "We've been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other's products and services".

In a row that has simmered over the past two years between Google and Amazon, tempers appear to have flared in the latest spat between the two global tech giants. As a result, and because Amazon does not carry Google devices such as Google Home, Chromecast, or Nest devices, it has pulled YouTube from the Amazon devices. It's understandable that Google is frustrated by Amazon using its service but not selling its products, but pulling YouTube from Amazon's devices means that Google is making it harder to use YouTube on Amazon's hardware.

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook first announced Prime Video support for Apple TV at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in June, but the app's release had been delayed for unknown reasons.

In a retaliatory move sure to upset viewers, Google is halting YouTube Streaming to Echo Show and Fire TV devices. Like Google, the Amazon statement ended with "hope" for a resolution soon.

Internet giants Amazon and Google have come to blows over the way in which they promote and acknowledge each other on their own platforms. Google shares and Amazon shares both closed higher in Tuesday's USA trading session. Google had said that Amazon's implementation of YouTube blocked what Google considered critical features.
