Crews are responding to an oil spill along the Keystone pipeline route in Amherst, South Dakota, according to TransCanada, the company that operates the pipeline. This northern leg has been closed, said the company, but the southern leg of the system from Cushing to the Gulf Coast remains operational.

The leak was detected after a drop in pressure in the operating system.

Western Canada Select heavy blend crude for December delivery was trading at $14.50 below the West Texas Intermediate benchmark at late afternoon on Thursday, down slightly from $14.20 the day before. It was detected about 6 a.m. Thursday by TransCanada and reported to state officials more than four hours later, said Brian Walsh, a manager with the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Responsiveness issues found on Google's Pixel 2 XL
For now, it appears that the unresponsive screen edges of Google Pixel 2 XL have nothing to do with hardware defects. Apple has its own touchscreen issues with iPhone X devices becoming briefly unresponsive in the cold.

"Ultimately, the cleanup responsibility lies with TransCanada, and they'll have to clean it up in compliance with our state regulations", Walsh said. The Keystone XL pipeline has been opposed by environmental and Native American groups since it was proposed previous year.

The pipeline transports crude from Alberta, Canada, to refineries in IL and Oklahoma, passing through the eastern Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. This is actually Keystone's third major spill in South Dakota, with the first being a 21,000 gallon tar sands spill which occurred in its first year of operation and a 16,800 gallon spill which happened last year.

TransCanada is seeking approval from the Nebraska Public Service Commission for the final section of a second pipeline project, the Keystone XL. The company said it's working with state regulators and the Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to assess the situation. The PSC will announce its long-awaited decision on the application Monday.
