Vehicle crashes near London's museum, terrorism ruled out

London police on Sunday released a 47-year-old man arrested on suspicion of risky driving after a vehicle crash outside the Natural History Museum injured 11 people.

Police said a man has been detained in connection with the incident and the cause was under investigation.

Nine of the 11 injured people were taken to hospital, but it is understood that no one has suffered serious injuries.

However, none of their injuries are believed to be life threatening.

The fiance of singer Pixie Lott, Oliver Cheshire, was one of those who held down the driver of the auto involved in the incident.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the driver's possible motive.

He said: 'We were going to see the Pink Floyd exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum and we were sat a restaurant when our waitress said there had been an incident outside.

Security is high in Britain after five terror attacks since March - four in London and one in Manchester - which have claimed 35 lives.

Al Jazeera's Neave Barker, reporting from London, said that armed units and forensic teams rushed to the scene after the incident.

The incident happened at around 2:30 p.m. local time when the black vehicle struck the pedestrians.

A witness stated a nearby Tube station was shut down.

The Metropolitan Police in a statement said he was taken into custody following the incident on Exhibition Road in Southern Kensington and was later arrested.
