At least 20 people are dead and 15 injured following a powerful explosion from a truck bomb on a busy road in the Somali capital.

Later on Saturday, a second blast took place in the city's Madina district.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack, though al Shabab, an offshoot of al Qaida, has carried out other vehicle bombings in the country in recent months.

One witness told the AFP that the bomb went off alongside a busy road and that it left many people dead.

"This was very frightful", witness Ismail Yusuf told AFP news agency.

"For 10 years I have been in the emergency service, this is the first I have witnessed".

"This was very terrible incident".
