FM stresses close cooperation with US, Japan in tackling NK problem

According to Japanese government sources, Trump is slated to hold a bilateral summit with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on November 6.

Senior U.S. and Japanese officials arrived in Seoul on Tuesday, to meet their South Korean counterpart for talks over North Korea's nuclear and missile threats.

Trump is expected to stress the need for applying the maximum pressure on Pyongyang while clarifying the United States' obligations to defend its Asian allies, including Japan and South Korea, they said.

The latest United Nations sanctions included the restriction of energy supplies to North Korea and an exports ban on North Korean textiles.

North Korea in recent months has tested purported thermonuclear weapons and intercontinental missiles and launched two midrange missiles over Japan while also threatening to fire similar weapons toward Guam, a Pacific U.S. territory and military hub.
