Trump says 'talking not the answer' on N. Korea

'All options' on table after NKorea missile launch over Japan: Trump North Korea: Please fill me in
Andrew Cummings | 05 September, 2017, 21:19

North Korea said the launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile on Tuesday was to counter USA and South Korean military drills and was a first step in military action in the Pacific on "containing" the US island territory of Guam.

Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a readout of the call late Wednesday that both Lavrov and Tillerson condemned North Korea for the most recent launch and called for dialogue. North Korea sharply raised regional tension this week with the launch of its Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile, which flew over Japan and landed in the Pacific.

In response to the latest test, President Trump warned that all options were on the table.

North Korea previous year conducted its fourth and fifth nuclear tests, saying the fourth in January 2016 was a successful hydrogen bomb test, although outside experts say the claim has not been proven.

South Korea has refuted a news report that there was a second natural disaster near North Korea's nuclear test site. The first of its two atomic tests past year involved what Pyongyang claimed was a sophisticated hydrogen bomb; the second it said was its most powerful atomic detonation ever.

On Friday, scheduled emergency evacuation drills took place in multiple Japanese cities, practicing for a "missile launch from Country X".

It is clear, however, that each new missile and nuclear test gives the North invaluable information that allows big jumps in capability.

Kono urges China, Russia to up pressure on N. Korea
Some experts believe the next North Korean launches will be bolder unless Washington makes serious concessions. North Korea hates such displays of USA military might at close range and will likely respond with fury.

Port Arthur refinery, largest in U.S. , shuts down as Harvey floods Texas
The flooding, particularly in the Houston area, cut gasoline demand by about 150,000 barrels per day, according to some estimates. Others saw potential for operational refineries to delay typical September seasonal maintenance to benefit from high prices.

South Korea's military says North Korea is believed to have conducted its sixth nuclear test.

North Korea has conducted numerous ballistic missile tests in defiance of United Nations sanctions, but firing a projectile over mainland Japan was a rare and provocative move.

"We will convene a National Security council meeting to gather and analyze the information", Abe said in a live television broadcast prior to Kono's announcement.

Pyongyang triggered a new escalation of tensions in July after it carried out two successful tests of an ICBM, the Hwasong-14, bringing much of the U.S. mainland within range. South Koreans Vice Defense Minister Suh Choo-suk told lawmakers on Thursday that North Korea might have fired the missile at about half its maximum range.

The White House said President Donald Trump spoke with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan regarding "ongoing efforts to maximize pressure on North Korea".

Speaking Thursday, General Vincent K. Brooks, commander of US Forces Korea, said this was taken into consideration. "I think what they're really trying to do is to say that they can really hold these populations hostage, and there's little the US can do about it". "It is an important and serious issue that directly affects people's safety in the South and North".

History reveals that U.S. has been at war with North since the 1950-53 conflict that ended up in a truce rather than peace treaty.
