Spurs had a disappointing record before becoming tenants there and are yet to record a competitive win there this season, losing 2-1 against Chelsea before a stoppage-time Chris Wood goal earned Burnley a 1-1 draw prior to the worldwide break.

Spurs finished last season only seven points behind Chelsea who earned an impressive 93 points as they laid claim to their second league title in three years.

However, an excellent 3-0 win at Everton after the worldwide break, during which Kane scored a brace of goals, got Spurs back on track. "Last season I signed at the last minute and didn't have the pre-season so it was hard".

"He was good today", the Argentine coach said, quoted by West London Sport.

Such a positive turnaround in such a short period of time can potentially be attributed to the recruitment of the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Serge Aurier and Fernando Llorente before the closure of the transfer window, and striker Harry Kane agrees the top class signings have led to Spurs being back in contention for the league title.

That so-called curse was receiving attention before kickoff on Saturday when Kane kick-started his September in predictable fashion by scoring twice in the win at Everton.

"For me, OK, I put Batistuta there, " he said, raising one hand above the other, "and Harry there", with his other hand a little lower.

"We have left it late in the transfer market but we have got the players that we wanted and now we have got a good squad, a bulky squad". We didn't do great a year ago.

Kane's opener against Everton was his 100th goal for Spurs - on his 169th appearance - and although he has earned plenty of individual recognition and awards, he is yet to lift a trophy as a Tottenham player.

"Now I feel good and ready to fight like everyone, and try to give my best for the team".

I'm not sure I buy that Sissoko's crappy 2016-17 was down to him not having a preseason with the team, although it does make things harder.
