Australia vs Bangladesh: Rain delay could foil Aussies in second Test

Security scare in bangladesh Nathan Lyon took seven wickets in the first innings
Isaac Mcdaniel | 07 September, 2017, 02:03

Alongside Peter Handscomb (82), the pair amassed 152 runs for the third wicket after the morning session was completely lost to rain.

He reserved special praise for David Warner, whose 88 not out and the partnerships he built with Steve Smith and Handscomb formed the backbone of Australia's sturdy position.

After a terrific day two, Warner and Handscomb were looking to further close the gap, starting day three at 2-225, but their task was harder after a thunderstorm pushed back play until after lunch.

The 26-year-old Victorian was clearly not used to the intense sun and heat as he several times had to stop play, doubling-over and dry heaving on the pitch. He's just getting better and better in these conditions, changing his variations, growing and growing as a bowler.

Number 10 and number 11 batsmen Steve O'Keefe and Nathan Lyon are in the crease and the hosts will hope they remove one of them early on Thursday and then bat as long as possible.

But with this innings, Warner will definitely be pleased as he managed to improve upon his indifferent sub-continental record.

Warner would reach a landmark hundred, his second in consecutive innings, after his well-publicised slump in Test cricket and in Asia in particular.

No players or officials were injured but Cricket Australia did confirm that the incident was being taken seriously and they had beefed up their security arrangements as a result.

At the time of filing this story, Australia were in a commanding position in the Test match.

"The way he's adapted. and actually gone about in a different way in the last couple of innings has been spectacular", Lehmann said.

"I think (the doubts) probably hit me in Sri Lanka (in 2016)", Warner said after his first Test century.

"I'm doing myself and the team as many favours as I can by trying to put on runs, as everyone else is".

Smith led the charge with 58 from 98 deliveries after the early loss of Matt Renshaw (4) to steady the innings as he and his deputy David Warner combined for a 93-run second-wicket stand.
