About Lankesh's murder, Chaturvedi now says, "It has sent shock waves through the fabric of my being".

Elder daughter of noted Kannada litterateur-journalist P Lankesh, Gauri used to receive threats from various extreme forces in the recent past, but she never bowed down.

He stressed that the CBI should conduct the probe, but also said he was convinced that the ongoing investigation had made progress, as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah had told him.

Late Tuesday night, unidentified assailants fired at Gauri Lankesh outside her home in an up-scale residential suburb of Bengaluru. The onus is on the Congress government in Karnataka to ensure that her killers do not go unpunished. "The Congress government must investigate the matter and book the culprits soon", he said.

Journalists and activists poured into the streets of Bangalore and other Indian cities across the country to protest Lankesh's death and demand justice.

She had returned home in her vehicle and was opening the gate of her apartment when motorcycle-borne assailants fired at her indiscriminately with two bullets hitting her in the chest and one on her forehead, police officials said. She had also earned the wrath of many so-called godmen and spiritual institutions for exposing sexual abuses in the name of "spiritual salvation".
