Former Tottenham Hotspur player and now popular BBC pundit Garth Crooks says that Frank de Boer doesn't exude confidence following Crystal Palace's 2-0 defeat against Swansea City on Saturday.

A smart move by Frank de Boer, in a game he described as a "must-win".

"I understand the fans are frustrated because they want to see points and goals and they are not spoiled right now", De Boer said.

"Now we want to follow up that win by getting our first win this season in the league".

The first half of the match saw both sides performing equally poor with a few attempts on goal.

The hosts will be without on-loan Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who picked up a groin injury in training.

Swansea gave a debut to new signing Sam Clucas and flew out of the traps at Selhurst Park, going close in the fourth minute when Ayew headed just wide from Abraham's right-wing cross.

But the Palace man's misery was doubled as the Swans went 2-0 up.

McArthur also rifled a shot past Lukasz Fabianski's far-post, but both sides were guilty of lacking urgency and any real quality in the final third.

After the interval, Kelly should have done better with a free header from an Eagles corner.

Kyle Naughton dispossessed Martin Kelly before playing in Ayew and, although Hennessey saved the initial effort, the Ghanaian was on hand to tap the rebound home. The Wales goalkeeper made a mess of his clearance that ricocheted off Ayew, who watched the ball roll into an empty net.

Palace posed more of a threat in the second half and Townsend could well have pulled a goal back with a side-footed shot that went just wide.

Goals either side of half time from Tammy Abraham and Jordan Ayew were enough to see the Swans secure that maiden league success of 2017/18 - a result that never appeared to be in doubt as they held on easily.

"This result is very disappointing", conceded De Boer.

De Boer refused to put a timeframe on winger Wilfried Zaha's injury layoff but said he will continue his rehabilitation during an upcoming worldwide break.
