Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor Bajwa has said on Sunday that Pakistan Army does not have a direct relation with Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

In redponse to another question, Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor said the army has "no direct involvement" in the Joint Investigation Team formed to probe the family of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case.

Addressing a media conference, the ISPR DG said the operation has been launched to wipe out terrorists and consolidate gains made in other military operations to further enhance the security of Pakistan's borders.

He said Pakistan's security forces had always been carrying out anti-terrorists operations exclusively on the country's land and no foreign boots were ever allowed to take part in such military campaigns.

"Once this operation is completed, we will first secure the global border on our side and eliminate the hideouts of various terrorist groups", Ghafoor added.

He announced that Operation Khyber IV was launched by the army today in Shawal and Rajgal. DG-ISPR Ghafoor said that terrorists are targeting easy targets.

Major Gen. Ghafoor said the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) has been "especially tense" and there has been 580 ceasefire violations this year alone.

Last month, Pakistani army chief had called for a greater border coordination and security cooperation with Afghanistan to contain the brewing threat of ISIL.

DG-ISPR Asif Ghafoor said that the military court had rejected Indian spy Kulbushan Jadhav's first appeal.

The ISPR chief lamented that the Indian army has the choice of opening fire on civilian areas whereas the Pakistan Army can not do that to Kashmiris across LoC.

Speaking on the Raymond Davis issue, he said that Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was not the only institution involved in the matter. "Pakistan Army will continue playing its role for the security of Pakistan with other institutions", he said. "If the Afghan army was capable then maybe the issue would be resolved sooner", he said.

He said the cases of those 17 terrorists rounded up from Parachinar would be tried in the Military Courts on priority basis. Two of its members belong to the Inter-Services Intelligence and Military Intelligence. "Here, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar has pledged allegiance to Daesh". Barrister Zafarullah said that numerous papers filed by the JIT were not based on facts.

He said operation RUF, launched on February 22 this year with the aim to clear the pockets and signatures of the terrorists inclusive of the abettors, financiers and facilitators to achieve enduring peace.

"As many as 56 major operations including the Mastung operation and over 9,000 intelligence based operations were launched while over 1,500 joint check-posts were established across Pakistan", he said.

He said the entire border will be fenced and it would be kept under electronic and manual vigil permanently by constructing forts and posts after every 1.5 km distance.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 27 major operations and 817 IBOs were carried out. "We only fire towards bunkers where we think the firing is coming from. We try to keep civilian casualties to a minimum", he added.

Incidents of terrorism in Pakistan have shown a drop over the three-year period from 2014-2017, he said. "For this, army shall continue to perform its role in and with support of all other state institutions".
