YouTube Details New "Ad-Friendly" Guidelines

YouTube adds more details, and restrictions, around which videos can be monetized YouTube Will Pull Ads From Videos That Are 'Incendiary,' Demeaning or Show Kids' Characters Acting Inappropriately

It will enable creators to understand what they can do to remonetize their videos and get back to similar ad revenue standards as before - it dropped after several major brands left the platform. It is just that the video will continue to live on the platform, but won't be eligible for any sort of advertising from the company's brand partners - they no longer appreciate their ads appearing next to any offensive or hateful content.

YouTube has introduced new guidelines to take a tougher stance on hateful, demeaning and inappropriate comment.

Newly add content types include hateful content; inappropriate language; incendiary or demeaning content; and inappropriate use of family entertainment characters, which specifically states that those characters can not be depicted engaging in "violent, sexual, vile, or otherwise inappropriate behavior, even if done for comedic or satirical purposes". Many content creators felt those changes harmed their income, and they let YouTube know.

YouTube confirmed it had cancelled the second series of Scare PewDiePie via YouTube Red, which it had paid to produce, and that his channel was being removed from Google Preferred, which allows brands to advertise against the top performing channels. The first step in this direction was taken in September past year, when YouTube shed light on its advertising-friendly content guidelines and clearly spelled out the types of content that won't be eligible for monetization.

The Lions survived an onslaught in the first test in Dunedin before snatching a 9-3 win with a charge-down try. New Zealand are 1/4 on to win the series, while the Lions are 9/2 against and I know which odds tempt me more.

The guidelines don't cover every possible video type out there, but it does give a better idea on the kind of videos advertisers are most bothered with.

In its update Thursday to the advertising-friendly content guidelines, YouTube has added more nuanced explanations for what is disallowed.

Ads will also be banned from videos with "gratuitously incendiary, inflammatory, or demeaning" content.

One member of the community dubbed the move "YouTube's suicide note", and others raised concerns over how the new guidelines appear to censor users by making them think twice about what content to post. Before the targeted censorship took place, however, YouTube began a systematic process of demonetizing certain videos, but they were extremely reticent about the methodology they were using. For example, video content that uses gratuitously disrespectful language that shames or insults an individual or group. The issue spilled over into 2017, after Disney and others cut ties with prolific YouTube star Pew Die Pie over his use of anti-Sematic content in some videos.
