Trump On Verge Of Making Big Changes To Communications Team

Andrew Cummings | 02 June, 2017, 10:46

Mike Dubke, President Trump's communications director, is leaving the White House - the start of a wave of changes as the West Wing struggles to cope with burgeoning scandals and a stalled agenda.

"It is my opinion that numerous leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media", Trump wrote on Twitter on Sunday. "This White House if filled with some of the finest and hardest working men and women in American government".

"Jared is doing a great job for the country. And it's much easier, I think, if you have people who have a pre-existing relationship with him".

The intent was to connect Trump's chief national security adviser at the time, Michael Flynn, with Russian military leaders, a person familiar with the discussions told the AP.

There has been speculation that Trump will change several White House staffers.

The Times reported that Trump recently became "more open in discussing" Priebus' possible departure from his top White House post, with the president joking that he would send him off to Athens if such a move is made.

"I don't think so", Spicer responded.

Mr. Trump was rebutting reports that Mr. Kushner had talked about setting up a secret communications channel to Moscow during the transition after the election.

Trump tweeted Tuesday: "Russian officials must be laughing at the US & how a lame excuse for why the Dems lost the election has taken over the Fake News".

They could be part of a new rapid response team. "#FakeNews is the enemy!"

He is expected to conduct Tuesday's White House briefing, though.

"Back channels like this are the regular course of business, and that's really all that we know", Conway said.

"It's both normal, in my opinion, and acceptable", Kelly said on ABC News' "This Week".

Fox News may be standing by the story, but for now, it exists alone amongst a number of other reports as the sole defense of Murdoch's ally in the White House.

White House senior adviser Jared Kushner in Bethlehem, Israel, on May 23.

"Sorry, I'm sorry", the source said between stifled laughter.

"The Germans are bad, very bad".

And he said, "You're asking if he approves of an action that is not a confirmed action". But he declined to say whether he's been contacted by Trump or anyone else about a return engagement.

The Fox story leaned on an anonymous source who said that the topic did come up, but it was the Russians, not Kushner, who suggested a back channel and the objective of the private talk would have been to talk about Syria.

Republican U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham told CNN he doubted the Kushner reports were accurate. Senator Bob Corker, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, noted that Mr Kushner has been willing to answer questions. Look at the millions of cars they sell in the US.
