WASHINGTON-President Donald Trump appears to be questioning Russia's role in hacking the Democratic National Committee (DNC) during the 2016 election, despite widespread consensus from the intelligence community and lawmakers.

"By the way, if Russian Federation was working so hard on the 2016 Election, it all took place during the Obama Admin.", the president tweeted. "Why didn't they stop them?", Trump asked.

During Senate testimony, Lankford displayed a large screenshot of a phishing email allegedly used by Russian hackers to infiltrate the Democratic National Committee.

"It's all a big Dem HOAX!" the president tweeted.

"The DNC has been in regular contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for many months, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed the DNC has provided all the information it needed to make its assessment", Watson said in a statement. "It's all a big Dem scam and excuse for losing the election!"

Former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson testifies to the House Intelligence Committee task force on Capitol Hill in Washington, Wednesday, June 21, 2017, as part of the Russian Federation investigation.

President Trump also tweeted that Johnson's testimony vindicated him of the claims that he or his campaign colluded with the Russian government.

Johnson told the House Intelligence Committee he "voluntarily accepted the invitation to be here today as concerned private citizen" and highlight that "in 2016, the Russian government, at the direction of Vladimir Putin himself, orchestrated cyber attacks on our nation for the objective of influencing our election".

The Senate committee was hearing from officials at the DHS and the FBI's counterintelligence division.

The snub came just 24 hours after Comey told a Senate panel that an anonymously-sourced Times report from mid-February was false. He hinted that reporters would be "disappointed" in the answer. "I didn't obey that, but that's the way I took it", Comey said .

But Liles said the intelligence community concluded that a variety of factors "made it likely that cyber manipulation of the USA election system created to change the outcome of the U.S. election would be detected".

Fortunately for Spicer, now he doesn't have to bother finding the time to ask his boss whether he believes the 16 intelligence agencies who have all concluded that the Russians did in fact try to meddle in our election.

In January, Trump acknowledged that he believes Russian operatives hacked into files at the Democratic party headquarters and said Russian President Vladimir Putin "shouldn't have done it".

Trump has long raised doubts about whether Russian Federation was behind the hacking, something most Republicans and the entire intelligence community has determined.

Johnson said that he first became aware of intrusions into DNC systems sometime a year ago, several months after the Federal Bureau of Investigation had learned of the breach.

Priestap remained silent. "I don't blame you for not answering that question", Heinrich said. Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy asked Johnson pointedly whether he knew of any evidence of possible collusion with Russian Federation by the Trump campaign.

Jeh Johnson, who led the Homeland Security Department until the end of the Obama administration, added that his department had issued warnings about hacking into voter registration databases.

Johnson said, "I have no knowledge that votes were altered or suppressed in some way".
