Comey will be questioned about his conversations with President Donald Trump and the FBI's investigation of possible Trump campaign connections to Russian Federation.

The White House says President Donald Trump will not assert executive privilege to try to block testimony by fired FBI Director James Comey.

Comey is scheduled to testify on Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee in a public hearing about his termination and the investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation. His appearance will mark his first public comments since he was abruptly fired by the president on May 9.

Putin again denied any Russian involvement in the US presidential election and any knowledge of Russian contacts with the Trump campaign. However, officials ultimately concluded that the optics of taking that step would be worse than the risk of letting the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director testify freely.

Asked Friday if the White House might invoke executive privilege, Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters: “That committee hearing was just noticed, and I think obviously its got to be reviewed.”. Flynn was sacked after less than a month because of revelations that he misled Vice President Mike Pence about his communications with Russia's ambassador to the United States.

The New York Times reported late Friday, citing unnamed administration officials, that Trump is unlikely to attempt to muzzle Comey.

Trump asked Comey to drop the Flynn investigation, said a person who was given a copy of a memo Comey wrote about the conversation.
