And while Google's Doodle is wonderful, it's not almost as impressive as Fischinger's original work.

Click on Google's logo and you'll be taken to an interface that operates like a basic music sequencer. He also made over 50 short films, and created umpteen motion painting, many of which are in museums, galleries and collections worldwide. Fischinger was a trailblazing animator and painter, producing abstract film graphics decades before the advent of digital post-production. He created special effects for Fritz Lang's 1929 Woman In The Moon, one of the first sci-fi rocket movies.

If you have been surfing the web today you may have noticed an interesting Google Doodle and if you have clicked on it you will have been exposed to a pioneering world of music and art combined founded by Oskar Fischinger. "There exists a music of the visual world", is one of Fischinger's famous quotes". Once you start clicking the dots, the composition is played on loop as per the notes and the instruments you select. Google also gives you an option to modify the music. Oskar Fischinger left Nazi Germany in 1936 for Hollywood as Adolf Hitler cracked down on abstract art. "A master of motion and color, Fischinger spent months - sometimes years - planning and handcrafting his animations".

When the United States entered World War II, Fischinger and his family were classified as "enemy aliens" and he was forbidden to work in media, including the film industry. He was known for carefully photographing each frame with his own hand. Filmmaker Orson Welles, who had hired Fischinger to work on a jazz-themed film, continued to financially support Fischinger out of his own pocket when he became unable to work.
