Dallas Republican Pete Sessions says GOP plan doesn't resolve health care problem

Andrew Cummings | 25 June, 2017, 02:37

Senate Republicans are mulling over a provision to their healthcare overhaul measure that could bar Americans from purchasing insurance on the individual market for six months if they don't maintain continuous coverage, Vox reported Saturday.

Under the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate, Americans who don't purchase health insurance are subject to a fine.

Trump earlier indicated changes may be in store for the proposal unveiled by Senate Republicans on Thursday to replace former President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law.

All together, it shows how long-term conservative goals of cutting taxes and entitlement spending have overtaken Trump's agenda, as the bill faces critical votes in the Senate as soon as next week that could take it to the precipice of becoming law.

Five Republican senators have announced they will not support the bill, which is created to repeal and replace Obamacare, in its current form. The North Carolina representative told reporters the Senate bill "does not have enough conservative support" to get by the House without changes.

Radio amateurs will take part in Field Day
Jones said amateur operators represent all walks of life, and his club boasts a membership that ranges in age from the 20s to 90. Field Day is a 24-hour event where amateur radio operators can contact other operators around the world.

With all Democrats expected to oppose the measure, the Republicans can afford to lose the support of only two of their 52 members if they want to pass the legislation.

On Thursday, four of the Senate's most conservative members said the new plan failed to rein in the federal government's role. "And we'll see if we can take care of that".

Americans need to educate themselves of the most recent GOP Healthcare bill and understand it's negative impact on most citizens-except the rich and those in Congress. The Republican-majority House passed a similar version of health care legislation last month. The bill also makes major cuts and structural changes to Medicaid, a health insurance program relied upon by almost 75 million Americans - primarily low-income, disabled, and elderly.

Trump publicly celebrated the House bill's passage, only to criticize it in private as "mean". It would phase out Obamacare's expansion of the Medicaid programme for the poor more gradually, waiting until after the 2020 presidential election, but would enact deeper cuts starting in 2025.
