CNN Battle with Sean Spicer Continues as He Shuts Out Jim Acosta

Stephen Colbert Leaks Drawings from Sean Spicer's No-Camera Press Briefing CNN Battle with Sean Spicer Continues as He Shuts Out Jim Acosta

Later, Acosta went on CNN to report his treatment in the press briefing, noting that Spicer refused to take a question from him.

Trump's relations with the media - never strong to begin with - have taken another sour turn with dwindling opportunities for on-camera engagement with the president's representatives.

White House briefings have been open to live television broadcasts since the presidency of Bill Clinton in the 1990s when then-press secretary Mike McCurry chose to make them available to general viewership.

It's been a week now since Spicer gave an on-camera briefing. He told reporters there was nothing wrong with mixing up the routine.

The White House Correspondents' Association has urged Spicer to keep the briefing televised in the interests of transparency and a healthy democracy.

Mr Acosta, who has been one of the staunchest press corps critics of the White House's decision to bar cameras from the press briefings, pushed back in a tense exchange between the two. "We are not satisfied with the current state of play, and we will work hard to change it". CNN later in the week dispatched a sketch artist to the briefing room, an effort to bring a higher profile to the issue.

Spicer has complained reporters do too much grandstanding for the cameras.

"Why are they off, Sean?" "You are a taxpayer-funded spokesman for the United States government, could you at least give us an explanation for why the cameras are off?" he continued.

"Maybe we should turn the cameras on, Sean, why don't we turn the cameras on?"

Spicer didn't answer why the administration doesn't want reporters to turn the cameras on, and now several journalists are asking why those behind the cameras don't simply ignore the White House's wishes. But when Trump held a Rose Garden ceremony with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, even that route to the president was cut off. "Look, this is nothing inconsistent with what we've said since day on".

"I think some of these reporters are more interested in their YouTube clips than than they are in getting factual news", Spicer said. Has it been Democrats resisting? During Mr Trump's first press conference after winning the election, the CNN reporter was shouted down by the President-to-be, who said, "You are fake news"!

In Earhardt's interview, she discussed Trump's admission that he did not tape conversations with former FBI Director James Comey, despite earlier suggesting that there might be tapes. "Can we have the cameras on?"
