Apple has begun production of its Siri speaker, should release this year

Lori Graves | 03 June, 2017, 07:27

Apple has started production on a smart speaker powered by Siri and it could announce the device as soon as WWDC next week, say sources speaking to Bloomberg.

Since it launched past year, the Echo has gone on to be a huge success for the online retail giant with the device able to play music, get weather reports and the latest news via simple voice commands.

- Those rumors of Apple unveiling a Siri-enabled speaker just got a little more tangible.

According to sources close to the matter, Apple is already manufacturing the Siri-controlled device, and it could be debuted at the company's annual developer conference next week.

Bloomberg also revealed that Apple won't integrate a screen in its first iteration of the Siri Speaker.

One of the biggest tech products in the last few years has absolutely nothing to do with Apple.

Despite being outclassed, Haase was able to see the amusing side: "At the beginning I was way better", the Dutchman said. Seven-time grand slam victor Venus Williams cruised past Kurumi Nara with a 6-3 6-1 win to book a third round spot.

Last week, we also reported that the iPhone maker is preparing to unveil its voice-activated speaker at its Worldwide Developers Conference. For example, it could serve as a hub to automate other smart functions, such as lighting through Apple's HomeKit system.

Rumours have been rife that the United States technology giant will reveal a new speaker that could take aim at Amazon's award-winning Echo.

The Siri Speaker will put the company's offering into direct competition with the current smart home stalwarts, Amazon Echo and Google Home. In other words, a top of the line acoustic experience might be an altogether moot point if Siri performance can't keep pace with what Amazon and Google are able to deliver. This is a segment of Apple that Tim Cook expects to see double from now through 2020.

Apple hopes that more advanced acoustics technology will give the speaker an edge over competitors, according to people with knowledge of the product's development. By offering this product as an alternative to the Echo or Home, Apple can more effectively lock-in its users to existing services such as Apple Music.

With the launch of a new iPhone - possibly called the iPhone 8 - later this year, the new iOS will be tailored to work on the upcoming handset.
