American soldiers wounded, not killed in incident at Afghan base

The spokesperson confirmed that there were no deaths among members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation mission or USA troops, adding that an Afghan soldier (presumably the assailant) had been killed and another one injured.

The NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan confirmed no fatalities in the insider attack involving an Afghan soldier in northern Afghanistan.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation said an investigation into the incident has been launched.

The shootout at Camp Shaheen near northern Mazar-i-Sharif city is the second "green-on-blue" attack - where Afghan soldiers turn their weapons on global forces assisting them - reported this week.

Radmanish told VOA the attacker also was killed.

The Pentagon said in a statement that US service members were wounded and "evacuated for treatment".
