Australian driver Will Power has won the IndyCar Grand Prix for his first victory of the season, leading 61 of 85 laps and easily holding off New Zealand's Scott Dixon on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's road course.

"It was good to get a win", Power said. "The Indy 500 a year ago sold out because of the community, not really because of what we did, but because of the way the community was and we feel that again".

"It's amusing, momentum, once your whole team and crew believes that you have a shot at winning races - which we have had all year - but when you execute it, it definitely gives them confidence". "I've been knocking on the door every week, and one is going to go our way here soon".

But he just wishes he fully understood what happened on pit road.

American Josef Newgarden was second at 1:10.2575 and will start third in the 22-car field.

The IndyCar Series will be back in full swing later today with the IndyCar Grand Prix.

"We were going to try and do our thing and get back with [Juan Pablo] Montoya [in fifth], but the engine failed on the front straight and that was the end of our day", Bourdais said.

"I love the sound of the cars", he said.

Australia's Will Power posted the fastest lap in Friday's practice for the IndyCar Grand Prix. “Scott and I were kind of in the minority (of the final group).”. In the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda, Oliver Askew (Cape Motorsports) drove to his fourth win of the season by 3.3461-seconds over Kaylen Frederick (Team Pelfrey). And it came on a day Dixon broke a tie with Jimmy Vasser for the second-most consecutive starts in series history. Winning the pole position for the Indianapolis Grand Prix and recording the victory and then capturing the pole for the Indianapolis 500 and finishing second to teammate Pablo Montoya.
