- Police fatally shot an armed inmate who took a hospital worker hostage at Geneva Hospital in IL.

Multiple agencies, including the Geneva Police Department, the Kane County Sheriff's office and SWAT teams, responded to the incident, surrounding the scene as it developed. Gengler says an officer shot and killed the inmate, whom he identified as 21-year-old Tywon Salters.

He then took a female hospital employee hostage, according to police.

The nurse who was taken hostage survived and was not injured in the ordeal. She was quickly taken to another room in the hospital. The incident started at about 12:30 p.m.in Salter's hospital room on the third floor of the hospital.

Salters was being held on charges related to a stolen vehicle, but police haven't said why he was hospitalized.
