At 170kg, Eman Ahmed, once world's heaviest woman, leaves India for Abu Dhabi Eman Ahmed discharged from Saifee Hospital

The surgeon, Dr Muffi Lakdawala, told an Indian news channel that Ms Selim had wanted her sister to stay in hospital until she was able to walk again, but orthopaedic specialists had told her Ms Abd El Aty would never walk again.

Eman has been treated by Dr Lakdawala and a team of around 15 doctors from various disciplines since she was brought here from Alexandria on February 11 this year.

Doctors from Abu Dhabi, where Ms Ahmed was flown to, were present for her release from Saifee Hospital.

Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty had been previously considered the heaviest woman in the world, but thanks to an intervention from doctors in India, she managed to leave their hospital 325 kg lighter than her previous weight.

The Egypt native went to Saifee Hospital in Mumbai for pro-bono surgery, but the way that surgery came about was very unpredictable.

Eman (36), who was accompanied by her sister Shaimaa Salem, would be shifted to VPS Burjeel Hospital for further treatment.

The hospital's nursing staff, who had looked after her for 82 days as she first underwent a stringent diet regime before going under the knife for weight loss surgery, said goodbye with flowers.

A green corridor was created for transporting Eman from Saifee Hospital to Gate No. 5 of Terminal 2 at the airport.

Shaima had earlier accused surgeon Dr Muffazal Lakdawala of not carrying the treatment properly, alleging heavy dose of medecines leading to ill effects on "brain activity".

Ms Ahmed's journey from the hospital to the city's worldwide airport, via a green corridor provided by the Mumbai traffic police, turned into a spectacle, with camera crews from the media tracking her ambulance's every motion amid popping flashbulbs.

Doctors in India have refusing to continue treating Miss Abdulati - saying they have fitted a gastric band and now she needs to continue the work on her own at home. Her flight to UAE will take off around 6 pm today, he said. Ahmed had not been able to step out of her house in over 20 years until she was taken out for treatment, forced by a stroke that left her partially paralyzed. She also accused the hospital of exaggerating Abd El Aty's weight loss and claimed she was suffering seizures and was not stable enough to be moved. A motorized wheelchair and an electric patient lifter with a pick-up capacity of 300 kilos have been specially imported from the USA and Sweden.

Ahead of her discharge from hospital which was delayed because of technical issues, Maharashtra health minister Dr Deepak Sawant also visited the patient and spoke to the doctors.

Her surgery took place last March.
